On November 21, 1980, the MGM Grand was the site of one of the worst high-rise fires in United States history, in which 85 people died. The 26-story hotel contained 2,100 rooms, and was among the world's largest hotels.
It originally opened as the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino on December 4, 1973. It is owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment.
